Cities generate 70% of overall CO2 emissions; the construction sector is responsible for 40% of greenhouse gases emissions, along with 30% of the consumption of raw materials and 30% of overall waste production.
These figures highlight the pressing need to make environmental impact the central concern in urban planning, architecture, and design. Environmental problems in cities have impacts in many other regions of the planet, such as those where resources are extracted and those that suffer the consequences of the emissions and waste produced.
