Salvador Rueda

Director of the Barcelona Urban Ecology Agency

Director of the Barcelona Urban Ecology Agency since it was created (2000), he has worked on several strategic projects aimed at reorientating cities towards a more sustainable model. He has also coordinated renovation and revitalisation projects in the Ciutat Vella district, and drafted the Catalan Sanitation Plan and Barcelona Metropolitan Area Waste Management Programme. He has held management positions at the Catalan Ministry of the Environment (1992-2000), Barcelona City Council (1986-1992) and Sant Adrià de Besòs City Council (1980-1986). He was also a member of the Expert Committee on Urban Environment of the European Union (DGXI) from 1994 to 2000. He has written several books and numerous scientific and technical articles on urban planning. He has carried out planning work in the following areas: strategic plans and regional planning, urban planning, urban greenery, mobility, public space, urban metabolism and social cohesion.

Rueda has a Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Sciences and Psychology from the Universitat de Barcelona and a diploma in Environmental Engineering and in Energy Management, having specialised in several aspects of the urban environment from a comprehensive perspective.
