Mitchell Joachim

Architect and urban designer

Architect and urban designer, co-founder of Terreform ONE and Associate Professor of Practice at New York University. He was an architect at the Frank Gehry and M. Pei studios. He is the recipient of a Fulbright scholarship as well as fellowships from TED, Moshe Safdie and the Martin Society for Sustainability at MIT. He was chosen by Rolling Stone magazine as one of the “100 people who are changing America”. Mitchell has also won awards such as the Architect R+D Award, the AIA New York Urban Design Merit Award, the International Architecture Award, the Victor Papanek Social Design Award and the Time Magazine Best Invention of the Year with the MIT Smart Cities Car. He is the co-author of Super Cells: Building with Biology and Global Design: Elsewhere Envisioned. He received his doctorate from the MIT with Ecotransology: integrated design for urban mobility, a thesis that proposes a rethinking of urban mobility through ecological design. 

His Fab Tree Hab project, a hypothetical ecological home design developed at MIT together with Javier Arbona and Lara Greden, has been exhibited at the MoMA and led to numerous publications.
