Hashim Sarkis

Architect, educator and scholar

The founding director of Hashim Sarkis Studios (1998), she is an architect, educator and scholar. BArch and BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design (1987), a Master’s Degree with distinction from the Harvard Graduate School of Design (GSD) (1989) and PhD in Architecture from Harvard University (1995). Before he founded his studio, he worked for Rafael Moneo on the Beirut souks (markets) project. Sarkis taught at the Harvard School of Design and was the Aga Khan Professor of Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning in Muslim Societies at the GSD. In 2014 he was appointed Dean of the MIT School of Architecture and Planning. 

He is the author of several books and articles, including Circa 1958: Lebanon in the pictures and plans of Constantinos Doxiadis  (2003), and coeditor with Eric Mumford of Josep Lluís Sert: The Architect of Urban Design (2008). He has taken part in international juries and given lectures all around the world.
