Neil Gernshenfeld

Director of the MIT Center for Bits and Atoms

He is a director of the MIT Center for Bits and Atoms and his laboratory analyses the limits between the digital and physical world, from the creation of molecular quantum computers to that of virtuoso musical instruments. He was named by the Scientific American Guide as one of the 50 world leaders in science and technology, and by Prospect/FP, as one of the 100 most important public intellectuals in the world. Gershenfeld has a bachelor of science in Physics, an honorary doctorate in Sciences from Swarthmore College and a PhD in Applied Physics from Cornell University.

He is the driving force behind the growing global network of fab labs offering widespread access to prototype tools for personal fabrication, and runs Fab Academy, the associated programme for distributed research and education in digital fabrication principles and practices.
