Benjamin Bratton

Lecturer in Visual Arts and director of the Center for Design and Geopolitics at the University of California

A lecturer in Visual Arts and director of the Center for Design and Geopolitics at the University of California, Bratton’s work covers such disciplines as art, philosophy, design and computational sciences. He is the director of The New Normal programme at Moscow’s Strelka Institute for Media, Architecture and Design, a speculative urban-planning think tank that researches alternative urban conditions and futures. He is also a lecturer in Digital Design at the European Graduate School. 

In The Stack: On Software and Sovereignty (2016) he describes a new geopolitical theory for the era of global computation and algorithmic governance. His current research project, Theory and Design in the Age of Machine Intelligence, tackles the challenges of design posed by AI, from the macroeconomics of robotics to everyday geo-engineering.
