Joan Vergés Gifra

Director of the Ferrater Mora Chair of Contemporary Thought

Director of the Ferrater Mora Chair of Contemporary Thought and senior lecturer in Moral Philosophy at the Department of Philosophy at the Universitat de Girona. A humanities consultant at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya, he has been an adjunct lecturer at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and a visiting lecturer in Political Sciences at the Universitat de Pompeu Fabra. He has done research stays as a visiting fellow at Harvard University, a visiting scholar at Oxford University and a Gastdozent at the University of Osnabrück (Germany). His main interests are contemporary political philosophy, especially John Rawls; the theory of nationalism; pluralism, and religious diversity. 

Besides numerous academic articles in magazines such as Theoria: A Journal of Social and Political Theory or Journal of Social Philosophy, he has had various books published, including Llibertat: una immersió ràpida (2018) and La nació necessària (2014, winner of the Ramon Trias Fargas Award for Political Essays).
