Professor of political philosophy

Professor of Political Philosophy, “Ikerbasque” researcher at the Universidad del País Vasco / Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea and a lecturer at the European University Institute in Florence. He has been a visiting lecturer at various European and American universities, including the Sorbonne, the London School of Economics and Georgetown University. His latest books include La política en tiempos de indignación (2015), La democracia en Europa (2017), Política para perplejos (2018) and Una teoría de la democracia compleja (2019). His research focuses on the transformation of politics and the idea of a complex democracy.

He is a regular opinion writer for El Correo / Diario Vasco, La Vanguardia and El País. He is the recipient, among other awards, of the Basque Essay Prize, the National Essay Prize and the Príncipe de Viana Prize for Culture. In 2004, the French magazine Le Nouvel Observateur included him in a list of the world’s 25 great thinkers.
