Maria Arnal

Singer and renewer of traditional oral music

Educated in the fields of literature, translation, anthropology and singing, she focuses her music and vocal work on field recordings taken from digital sound archives. In 2013 she joined the Compartir Dona Gustet collective, which investigates and disseminates the connections between oral-tradition and Internet music. She shares her main project, where all her previous groups’ concerns converge, with Marcel Bagés. Her first album was 45 cerebros y 1 corazón (2017).

She sings with other projects that have to do with music understood as a common good, with oral memory, experimental tradition or improvisation, such as Tornar al lloc, on family archives from the La Barceloneta neighbourhood, with the Mal Pelo contemporary dance company.
