A writer, poet, essayist and editor, she has a PhD in Contemporary Literature from the Complutense University of Madrid. Literary critic for the Babelia supplement of El País and the magazine Mercurio, she was editor-in-chief at the cultural magazine, Ni hablar, and a contributor to periodicals such as ABC and Viento Sur. 

The author of some 15 novels and essays, she was a runner-up for the 2006 Nadal Award for her Susana y los viejos. Her latest works include Farándula (2015), which won the Herralde Novel Award, Clavícula (2017) and Pequeñas mujeres rojas (2020), a dark story that appeals to collective historical memories.
