Writer, lecturer and political activist. Author of 50 books of fiction, poetry, critical essays and graphic novels. Her works have been published in over 45 countries. She is a former president of PEN International, an organisation that promotes freedom of expression and the release of authors held as political prisoners, and which she herself helped to found. Atwood’s reviews and critical articles have been published in The New York Times Book Review, The National Post, The Toronto Star andThe Washington Post, among other media. Some of her novels, such as The Handmaid’s Tale and The Robber Bride, have been adapted to films.

She is an honorary member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. In 2008 she received the Prince of Asturias Award for Literature for her committed and critical vision of the world and contemporary society. Her latest book, The Testaments, won the 2019 Booker Prize, which is awarded annually for the best novel written in English.
