Writer and researcher, pioneer in the study of plant neurobiology and one of the world’s leading authorities in this field. A champion of plant intelligence, he is a senior lecturer at the University of Florence, heads the International Plant Neurobiology Laboratory and is the founding member of the International Society for Plant Signaling & Behavior.

He has had several books published, including Sensibilidad e inteligencia en el mundo vegetal (2015, written together with the journalist Alessandra Viola), Biodiversos (2016, co-authored with Carlo Petrini), El futuro es vegetal (2017) and La nació de les plantes (2020). He has published over 250 scientific articles in international magazines.
