Writer and academic and author of Sex and the Citadel: Intimate Life in a Changing Arab World (Pantheon, 2013). Associate Fellow at Chatham House, London, and expert in the intersection between sexuality and the Arab world. Graduate in Immunology (University of Toronto) and PhD in Molecular Immunology (University of Cambridge). Vice-Chair of the UN's Global Commission on HIV and the Law. Former correspondent with The Economist and Al-Jazeera.
