Roger Chartier

(Lyon, 1949)
One of the leading figures in the field of cultural history and the history of reading and books. Member of the fourth generation of the Escola dels Annales he has taught at the University of Pennsylvania and at the Collège de France. His numerous works notably include: El sociólogo y el historiador, a book of conversations with Pierre Bourdieu, La historia o la lectura del tiempo, Libros, lecturas y lectores en la Edad Moderna, El mundo como representación: Historia cultural. Entre la práctica y la representación and co-edition, with Guglielmo Cavallo, from the influential Historia de la lectura.
He has received considerable acclaim, including the American Printing History Association's Annual Award and the Academis Française's Prix Gobert.
