After acquiring a PhD in the University College of London, she has worked in academia, industry and an International organization. Joana has been committed to the Free and Open Source Community for more than ten years, both as an advocate and a coder. She is a charter member of the Open Source Geospatial Foundation, the vice-president of OSGeo Portugal, and a contributor to various FOSS projects
