Education of the future
Globalisation and massive, accelerated information demand a profound reflection on education. Education runs the risk of succumbing to a tendency that imposes efficiency, performance and speed. In light of this reality, the Indian intellectual Gayatri Spivak vindicates slow education and the role of local schools and teachers. Spivak suggests creating places that are independent from the dominant culture, in order to give voice to the most vulnerable and offer them the opportunity of leaving their subordinate condition behind. She has put this into practice herself, with a project for rural school teachers in Calcutta.
Gayatri Spivak talks here to philosopher Marina Garcés, a defender of the emancipating power of education, which is fundamental for collective life.
